Over-50s dating in the UK. Free to join, verified badges, no rush.

SilverSingles is for people aged 50 and over who would like someone to share life with. It costs nothing to make a profile and look around. This site is about SilverSingles and is run separately from the company: we set out how the five-screen sign-up works, what a free account covers, what Silver Select adds, and how to lock your search to Britain. Every join button takes you straight to silversingles.com, and nothing is charged unless you decide to upgrade.

Who SilverSingles is for

SilverSingles only accepts members aged 50 and over, and that single rule changes the feel of the room. You do not have to scroll past twenty-somethings, and nobody thinks it remarkable that you have a marriage, grown-up children or a retirement plan behind you. Whether you are divorced, widowed or have been single for years, you are in ordinary company here. You can join free and look through local profiles before telling anyone your surname.

Have a clear photo of your face ready on the day you set up your account. When we registered a new web account on 17 September 2026, on first log-in the site opens Verify Your Account ("Takes only 3-8 seconds", "No additional documents required") and asks for "a clear photo of your face", and until that photo is uploaded every member page (home, Flame, settings, payment) redirects back to the log-in screen. (Our older walkthrough account, checked on 15 September 2026, was created before that gate and the account could use every feature without completing photo or phone verification, which is why some older profiles on the site still carry no badge.) Inside the site under Me, then Get Verified and Stand Out, the photo check takes 3 to 8 seconds and the mobile number check takes about 5 seconds, both free for now. Passing at least one puts a verified tick on your profile, though which check earns the tick is to confirm. Note that silverSingles states it does not conduct background checks on members. Our safety page sets out the three checks to run for yourself before meeting anyone for coffee.

One essential point for British members: SilverSingles used to run a separate UK domain at silversingles.co.uk, which is now closed. Since May 2026 the service has been operated by SuccessfulMatch.com, Inc. (the company behind SeniorMatch), and UK members now join at silversingles.com. If you want to read what we verified about the handover and the complaints people raise in reviews, start with is SilverSingles legit. Because the main site is international, whether you see profiles outside Britain depends on the Global Visibility toggle and your profile Country. Which way Global Visibility starts on a brand-new account is to confirm, so check it on the day you join under Me, then Settings, then Privacy & Visibility, then Global Visibility (switch off). Every screenshot is on only see UK members.

Alongside profile browsing, the site has themed online chat rooms called Groups, a photo-and-video feed called Moments, and member-hosted 1:1 Meetups. When we counted on 16 September 2026 there were 22 Groups, and a free account can join and chat in them straight away. Keep your expectations low for the 1:1 Meetup board in Britain for now: on 15 September 2026, the 1:1 Meetup list showed ten hosts: eight in the United States, one in Germany and one in England whose meet-up had already ended. The five still open to join were all in the United States or Germany. For talking to people without paying for private messages, the Groups tab is where the action is, and our glossary translates every other symbol on the screen.

How joining works

  1. 1

    Create your profile

The sign-up runs over five short screens with no personality questionnaire, and you can sign up with Apple or Google on the first one. Fill in I am and Looking for, set your preferred age range (starting at 50), choose a username and password, and add a few lines about yourself and your photos.

  2. 2

    Verify your photo

When a new account logs in for the first time, the site opens a Verify Your Account screen asking for a clear photo of your face (3 to 8 seconds). On 17 September 2026, every member page bounced back to the log-in screen until that picture was uploaded, so keep one ready on the day you join. Inside the site you can also verify a mobile number (about 5 seconds); both checks are free for now.

  3. 3

    Browse, then message

Flame deals you one profile card at a time; Gallery lays out a grid you can scroll and filter. Both views are free, so you can see who is near you as soon as your profile is up. Online interest groups and meet-up listings are open to free accounts too, while sending private messages and seeing who liked or viewed you requires Silver Select.

Free account vs Silver Select

Silver Select is the single paid tier, so there are no Gold or Platinum levels to untangle. Below is what each account can do, checked inside the member site on 15 September 2026. We do not print price figures on this site: the website displays its live plans on the checkout screen before you pay (in US dollars when our new free account opened it on 17 September 2026; whether a UK card is ever billed in pounds is to confirm).

Auto-renewal is switched on when you subscribe, so a plan renews for the same length as the plan you first bought unless you turn it off. The service agreement allows a refund within three working days. The help pages show you where the renewal switch is, and what to do inside that window if you change your mind.
